Measurement of the differential cross-section of highly boosted top quarks

چکیده
The differential cross-section for pair production of top quarks with high transverse momentum is measured in 20.3 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The measurement is performed for tt events in the leptonþ jets channel. The cross-section is reported as a function of the hadronically decaying top quark transverse momentum for values above 300 GeV. The hadronically decaying top quark is reconstructed as an anti-kt jet with radius parameter R 1⁄4 1.0 and identified with jet substructure techniques. The observed yield is corrected for detector effects to obtain a cross-section at particle level in a fiducial region close to the event selection. A parton-level cross-section extrapolated to the full phase space is also reported for top quarks with transverse momentum above 300 GeV. The predictions of a majority of next-to-leading-order and leading-order matrix-element Monte Carlo generators are found to agree with the measured cross-sections.

Charge asymmetries of top quarks: a window to new physics at hadron colliders
Abstract. With the next start of LHC, a huge production of top quarks is expected. There are several models that predict the existence of heavy colored resonances decaying to top quarks in the TeV energy range. A peak in the differential cross section could reveal the existence of such a resonance, but this is experimentally challenging, because it requires selecting data samples where top and ...

The existence of a new massive charged gauge boson, known as W’, is proposed by many new physics scenarios. When W’ decays to tb, the final state is very similar to the final state of the s-channel single top production, where W boson is the off-shell mediator to produce the top and bottom quarks. If W’ exists, it can affect the cross section of the SM s-channel single top production, so measur...
متن کاملMeasurement of the differential cross section for top quark pair production in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV
The normalized differential cross section for top quark pair (tt) production is measured in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the CERN LHC using the CMS detector in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. The measurements are performed in the lepton+jets (e/μ+jets) and in the dilepton (e+e−, μ+μ−, and e±μ∓) decay channels. The tt cross section is measured...
متن کاملPrecise measurements of the top mass and direct measurement of the mass difference between top and antitop quarks at DØ
We report on measurements of the mass using dilepton and lepton+jet data collected with the D0 detector. These results are compared to the top mass extracted from the t ¯ t cross section using higher-order quantum chromodynamics calculations. We also present a direct measurement of the mass difference between top and antitop quarks (∆m) in lepton+jets t ¯ t final states using the " matrix eleme...

The precise measurement of top quark production and properties is one of the primary goals of the Tevatron during Run II. The total tt̄ production crosssection has been measured in a large variety of decay channels and using different selection criteria. Results from differential cross-section measurements and searches for new physics in tt̄ production and top quark decays are available. Electrow...
